Today’s episode is the second part of our two-part conversation with Ashleigh VanHouten. In this episode, we talk about the ketogenic and paleo diets living in the city. Ashleigh splits her time between Ottawa, Canada and New York City where she lives in Manhattan.
Ashleigh has a very diverse background in health and fitness. She is a Paleo diet expert. She has her CrossFit Strongman and Olympic Lifting Certifications. She also puts her money where her mouth is by being a nationally qualified figure competitor and trains in powerlifting and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. Not afraid to say she would kick my ass.
I start out a little selfishly on this podcast asking for advice from Ashleigh about my wife’s healthy lifestyle and how she could improve what she is doing now. My wife uses a paleo driven diet and participates in intermittent fasting. She works out six days a week with a combination of lifting and High Intensity Interval Training twice a week. She has had fantastic results, but wants to take it to the next level. Ashleigh has some great advice for her and all women looking to improve their health and shape.
We then get into the bulk of this podcast. Living in an urban environment, especially high density areas like New York City or Chicago, seems like it would be difficult to live a healthy lifestyle. Ashleigh squashes my assumptions and has great, inexpensive advice for those who do reside there. The most eye-opening thing was how easy it is to do on a budget.
